Charles R. Burt to Frederick Swarman, 18 September 1878
Connecticut Fire Ins. Co. of Hartford, Conn.
Hartford Sept. 18, 1878.

F. Swarman Esq.
            Rockville, Mass

Dear Sir; Your favor 17th inst is at hand and spirit of same noted with some surprise. As advised we have received no proof and until same comes to hand claiming such proportion of the loss as agreed upon there will of course no action be taken toward payment. We regret that our very amicable intercourse hitherto has assumed this shape but of course if Mr. Swarman prefers this course, and to incur expense, we can only (though of course reluctantly) meet the case and show, as we believe we can, that the Connecticut Fire has offered him more than its proportion of his actual loss. If Mr. Swarman will examine the conditions of his policy he will see that our position is correctly taken. Yours &c      C. R. Burt, Sec'y
