Wade Hampton III to Edward Manigault, 26 June 1861
Columbia June 26th 1861
My Dear Sir
I find it impossible to procure pistols for my cavalry & if your Board can furnish the old dragoon percussion pistols to my men you will oblige me very much. I shall need about 250 prs Capt. Butler tells me that the Gov. has given him an order for pistols. Can any holsters be had in the city? Our troop goes tomorrow & the last on Saturday so if you can let me have any pistols I hope you will send them at once. Did you send any Arty sabres? I hear / that no arms can be had in Richmond. I beg to thank you for the very efficient aid you have given to the Legion for I am well aware that without the assistance of your Board no arms would have been given to me. I expect to take on the last detachment on Monday
I am
Yrs very truly
