George H. Starr to Lucy A. Starr, 5 June 1864

My Dr Mother—
I left Richmond on the 7th May & have been here 3 weeks. Was surprised last week to see Henry, who came in with officers captured on the 7th May. He is well: occupies the same shed with me & messes with a Capt Gear (from Camillus NY) who came in with him, a very fine man. We have better rations here than we had at the Libby, & 3 acres of ground for exercise. Give yourself no uneasiness, Dr Mother, we will do very well. If father desires it he can no doubt secure my special exchange in the manner suggested before. Geo Hastings is here from Mt Morris. He suggests that father write to Hon Ames of Oswego (his father in law) in reference to securing special exchanges. I think it a very good idea. There is no prospect whatever of a general exchange; & never has been. I cannot but regret that H. has been taken prisoner on a/c of the additional anxiety it may cause you, but there is no occasion for it. My health is very good.
With much love to all

Your Affectionate Son
George
