John Howe Statement, 24 November 1862
HeadQuarters 1st Regt Infty. N.Y.S. Vols.
Near Fredericksburg Va. November 24th 1862.
 
At a Meeting of Officers of the 1st Regt. Infty. N.Y.S. Vols. of which Col. J. Fred. Pierson was Chairman, and Surgeon John Howe, chosen Secretary, held November 24th 1862. it was moved seconded and carried by a unanimous vote, that Messrs. George Holberton and Charles Freeman, be dismissed from the Service of the regiment, and considered as no longer attached to the same as Sutlers, except in so far as may be necessary to settle their accounts and close their business affairs.
 
            The following resolutions were then proposed and unanimously adopted:— Whereas, a considerable amount of money is still due Messrs. Holberton and Freeman from the regiment, Resolved, that the Officers pledge themselves to use their best endeavors to have these debts liquidated at the earliest possible period.
 
Resolved that the Officers of the 1st Regt. Infty. N.Y.S. Vols. do authorize the appointment of Mr. John Goetchins to act temporarily as regimental Sutler until further notice.
 
Moved and Seconded that a copy of the above resolutions be transmitted to Messrs. Holberton and Freeman by the Secretary of the Meeting. Carried.
