Dear Sister
I received your letter last Thursday and was glad to hear from home again I reached the Regiment that evening but on reaching it I did not find frank Tomlinson he was wounded on the last cavelry raid near richmond but not dangerously. Ben Vanhorn was also wound there we are now doing picket duty on the left wing of our Army and skouting a round through the country yesterday our captain was wounded through the arm and shoulder him and ten others / includeing my self went out on a skout and run in the Rebs pickets before we knew it they fired on to us but did not do any injury excepting wounding the Captain we gave them a couple of round a piece an retreated I wold have writen ere this but we are on the move nearly day and night and fighting them where ere we meet them we are know about 14 miles from Richmond and the Rebs are falling back slowly the other day I was out on picket and there was two Rebs came in and I captured them but the Bugers had no arms so you can imagine that I had not much trouble in / captureing them they were straglers from the Reb army had got in our lines and throwd there arms away and trying to get back to there Army
I think that this summer will end the war for we are whiping them at every point.
Gillespie is well and sends his respects to all
