John Cassel to Annie C. Thomas, 1 August 1864
Office of the Provost Marshal,
Head Quarters Dept. of Virginia & North Carolina,
Fort Monroe, Va., August 1st 1864.

Mrs. J. Hanson Thomas.
            Baltimore Md.

Madam.
Your note of 29th July was handed me this morning. Absence at the front will account for my not receiving it earlier.

Lt. DeKay spoke to me a few days since in relation to the trunk of clothing to be sent to your bother in Richmond. If you will forward it to me at this place I will see that it is placed on the put on the first flag of truce boat leaving.

With much respect
Your obdt servant
John Cassel
Capt & A.D.C.
Pro. Marshal
