Annie Campbell Thomas (maiden name: Gordon) was born around 1820 in Virginia. She married John H. Thomas, and they had at least seven children: Basil, born around 1839; John, born around 1841; Raleigh, born on October 8, 1844; Douglas, born around 1847; Ann, born around 1849; Mary, born around 1852; and Marshall, born around 1854. They lived in Baltimore, Maryland, and her husband worked as a physician and bank president. By 1860, they owned $100,000 of real estate and $300,000 of personal property. A decade later, their wealth had fallen to $60,000 of real estate. A local writer described her as a "most estimable woman [who] was active in all charitable works." Her husband died in 1881, and she died in Baltimore on March 17, 1886.
