Raleigh C. Thomas to Annie C. Thomas, 24 November 186X
Lynchburg Nov 24th
Dear Mother,
I have just recovered from an attack of bilious fever which knocked me up completely but I am have nearly recovered my flesh & strength. I suppose you got Uncles letter by Flag of Truce announcing my safety. My horse is d was disabled but is quite well now & is at Charlottesville. Nellie is coming up to spend her birthday. I am very anxious to see her not having had that pleasure for three years. Aunt has just rec'd your Flag of Truce letter & is delighted with the prospect of getting the stolen articles back. Mrs Garland treats me like a son & I feel at home thoroughly Uncle is in Fred'burg but will return Friday or Saturday I was transferred from the General Hospital to private quarters which is Mr Garland. Aunt rec'd a letter from Hanson he was well. I am glad to hear that Doug is getting on so well. I stayed at Mr Macfarland a few days last week. Hanson's letter by Flag of Truce of 9th arrived safely. Give my love to all the family & to all the boys. I suppose all of them having employment they don't congregate as much as they used to do. Has Skip gone back to college or what is he doing? Doug enthusiastic on billiards as ever. Aunt & Uncle are well. Aunts eyes trouble her a good deal. We are very glad to hear of Grandma's convalescence. Love to Aunt Eliza, write oftener, to me, by every flag of truce. Your very affect Son
Raleigh C. Thomas.
