Dear Wife
                        I received your letter yesterday and you dont know how pleased I was to hear from you it puts new life in a man when he gets a letter from his wife it seams to rais a fellow wright up Katie you wanted to know if I got all of the papers that you sent to me I believe I have Katie I got 3 yesterday you nead not send so many unless you want to Katie dont send but one to a time for the boys want to see them and I hate to refuse them and half / of the time I dont get them a gain and if you dont send but one I can read it first Katie I am agoing to tell you something what I have done and I gess you will like it first rate that is a bout tobacco Katie when I was in annapolis I use to use tobacco and since we left annapolis I have not used it we went on board of the boat and there was so many a smoking and chewing that it made me sick to pass by the old nasty pipes and now I cant bear the smell of tobacco anny way Katie it makes me sick to stand be side of a man that is smoking I dont stand there long I tell you / it cured me of useing tobacco by being on the boat and I wish that there would not a nother bit ever grow Katie it was orderd by the doctor to give the soldiers quinine and whiskey for 14 days and Katie you can give your miley the praise for he never drinked anny of it the boys asked me why I did not drink it I told them that I was better with out it Katie you have not got the last letter that I sent you I sent you a letter with a note of 10 Dollars that you can by going down to East St foot wooster to fitches that is the state pay 10 / dollars write and let me know if you get it fred sold his here for 7 Dollars what a foolish man Katie I will make you a little plate spon knife and fork and send them to you when I get a piece of wood to make it of I cant think of anny thing els to write this time and so I will close wishing you good health and enjoyment in this world give my love to all and shear a great part your self with a lot of kisses remember me I am well and hope these few lines will find you the same love to milford
