Catherine Smith (maiden name unknown) was born around 1843 in Connecticut. She married Miles L. Smith around 1861, and their daughter Grace was born around 1866. They lived in New Haven, Connecticut, and her husband worked as a carpenter. By 1870, the family owned $800 of personal property. By 1900, she was apparently living separately from her husband. She earned a living as a dressmaker in New Haven. Her husband died in 1911, and she began receiving a widow’s pension soon afterward. She died sometime after 1911.
