My Dear Wife
I now take my pen in hand to write a few lines to let you know that I am well and hope these few lines will find you the same. as I have not a great deal of time to write I must tell you Katie we have had marchin orders to be ready in 36 hours with 3 days rations in our / haversacks and 7 days rations to be put in the waggons and 30 waggons for a brigade and 2 boxes of amnition for each rigerment I dont know where we are a going they keep the 10 rigerment a going some where all of the time. all of the Mass rigerments come and see us drill and they think that the 10. Conn cant be beat for evry hand comes down to gether and we fairly make the gunns snap they think / the 10. is round on driling and on a march. Katie as I have not time to write home you must write and tell them that we have gone on a march but I trust in my heavenly farther to spear my life to return again in safty I look to him for pertection trust in the lord and you will be saved fred is well and I shall take good care of him. give my love to all and shear a good part your self with a lot of kisses this is from your ever loving Husban Miles L Smith
