Fort Drayton Otter Island
Dec. 20th 1861.
Dear Major
Yours of the 11th was gratefully received. Thank you for the papers, anything is acceptable here. I think Ellis, if he can do nothing ought to have brought the information instead of sending it. Or does he intend to remain at home during the War?
I am gratified to learn that the [faded] was all right in the hands of the [faded] Smith, and wish I could gain the same intelligence concerning mine, which was to be sent by Capt. Cole, from N.Y. to Phila of which I have heard nothing as yet.
Have the other Companies yet left for the other Expedition southward? We had no storm here such as you speak of. 'tis true, we had something of a blow, which caused some little delay in landing the stores.
The Boys are mostly in good [torn] and as usual, work as cheerfully as ever [torn] no grumbling. I refer you to the [torn] for progress in work, as I have written them; and time before mail leaves, limited.
The Lieutenants send with me [torn] / the pious regards of the Fraternity, hoping you are well. Give our best regards to all the Officers—The Col. Lieut Col. the Major and all the Officers associated with them & kind remembrance to all the Boys. My particular regards to the Quartermaster, Adjutant and Lieut [faded] and tell the Q.M. not to forget my things, if he can send them. In haste to conclude,
I am Yours Truly
Chas. G. Strahan
