I think it my duty to write a few lines to you in regards to my situation. Captain Gould as forwarded my letter of recommendation to Col Brown for Promotion a few days previous to his death which prevented it from being sent on to the Governor of Rhode Island
I have bean with this rigament eaver since its reorganization having entered it as a private & [torn] good conduct & faithful attendance to my duty as reached the posisition of 2nd Sergant, I have bean away from my Regt since January last & was first sent to Jones Island in charg of the magazin and remained there untill this fort was taken which [torn] was ordered here Captain Metcalf can testify my character as being a good soldier & a faithfull attendant [torn] my duty I have bean on scouting parties for some time since we came her i was also on the lait expedition to the [torn]awhatchie, and as given good satisfaction to all [faded] others under whoes command I have bean placed [faded, torn] you to Captain's Gould also Captain Metcalf also Captain Bailey [faded] in regards to my character
Sir i have no doubt but you have seen[faded] as it was laying in the late Col. tent [faded] /
I feel very anxious about it, to no weather it as met with your approval
Sir can I ask of you a favour to forward me a few lines to inform me weather it as met with your approval
I can also refer you to Mr Mcintosh of Providence Superintendant of the bleaching department at Fletchers & Brothers Providence he can testify my character
