Head Q'r's. 3d R.I. Artillery
Hilton Head, S.C. July 17th 1864
My Dear Colonel,
I enclose herewith the Blank duly signed by the Quarter Master who has the Surplus and Reserve Ordnance Stores in charge. I would suggest that you renew your application for a certificate when you forward the enclosed Blank.
I am unable to give you any data as to your last payment, all the old Pay Masters have left here. if you will write me the date and who paid you I will try to hunt it up. The Adjutant informs me that he has no notice when or by whom you were last paid. Fred is well. I am busy preparing for the muster out.
Truly yours,
C R Brayton
