Mary B. Carr (maiden name: Smith) was born on September 24, 1810, in Waterboro, Maine, to Jacob and Hannah Smith. She married John Carr around 1827, and they had at least eleven children: Sabrina, born on April 12, 1830; Elizabeth, born around 1832; Hiram, born around 1834; Susan, born around 1836; William, born around 1839; Sarah, born around 1841; Charles, born around 1844; Mary, born on March 3, 1847; Harriet, born around 1850; Lucia, born around 1854; and Lillian, born around 1857. They lived in Limerick, Maine, and her husband worked as a hatter and day laborer. By 1850, they owned $150 of real estate. Her husband died in 1877, and by 1880, she was living with her daughter Lillian in Limerick. She broke her leg around 1880.
She was a prominent and respected member of Limerick society. According to a local writer, she “had a remarkable memory and on matters pertaining to the early history of the town, she was very familiar and her opinion was frequently asked on some local matter that no one else was certain of.” She died in Limerick on March 31, 1896.
