Washington July 3rd 1865
 
Dear Sister Nellie
As i have a few spare moments i will improve them by writeing to you i am well this morning and hope these few lines will find you enjoying the same blessing it is quite cool and pleasent this morning i supose you are agoing to have a fine time tomorrow i wish i could be there We expected to Billys discharge was sent to the War Department more than a week ago they are very busy there he will have to wait his turn i supose he expects it every day there has been another Nurse there for a week expecting every day he would go away i was down there a week ago and saw a man dying and saw him after he / was dead i want to come home very much i dont think i shall get so far from home again very soon We will be home in a few weeks any way i think befor long but cant tell Write soon Nellie and give me all the news i wish you would ask Mother to get me one yard and a quarter more of that dress skirt she sent me get it laid by for me i think the skirt is not quite full enough She need not mind about getting it only to have it kept it will do very well as it is i had rather have another width in it i will send a small piece to match it by Give my love to Mother and all kiss Sammy and the Baby for me tell Sammy aunt Phebe is comeing home in a short time to see him and ask him what she will bring him and the baby tell the girls not / Write so often to me did i ever answer that letter Hannah wrote me i have forgotten give my love and Billys to all inquireing Friends that is if any inquire and take a share for your own Dear Self tell George Mary and Arthur i am mad with them for not writeing to me good bye Nellie Darling Sister be a good girl and get married the first chance you get is the parting advice of your Loveing Sister
