Washington July 30th 1865
 
Dear Sister Nellie
I received your kind welcome letter yesterday and was glad to hear from you I have not been very well for a few days i am better to day i have not heard from Billy yet i shall look for him this week i am glad the boys are comeing home i guess Billy will be about the last
 
We had a hard rain and hail storm here yesterday afternoon it is raining every few moments now 4 weeks from to day Billys time will be out if he haves to stay that long
 
We will be home in a short time after he gets back tell mother to use the money she gets the 1st of August i dont know how much / there is due her for papers i will make it all right when i come home
 
i heard Billy had gone to some place below the Island of Cuba to some Fort the Government were building. i do not think any one knows where they are except those that sent them even Doctor Porter did not know when he started i have a new silk sash 13½ dollars how are they selling at home and another calico dress 31cts a yard i am not agoing to get any nice dress here i have to pay so much for getting it made five dollars for anything beyond a plain dress then i dont know wether they will spoil it or not tell Sammy i wont forget his candy give my love to all inquireing friends to Mother and all the family kiss the Babies for me When i come home i want you to bring Sammy up to the cars to meet me ask him if he wants to go up to the cars to / meet Aunt Pheebe and get candy and a new hat Good bye Nellie Mother Sammy and all the rest of you for this time i remain as ever your loveing Sister
