Washington August 12th 1865
Dear Sister Nellie
I write these few lines hopeing they will find you as they leave me Well it is quite cool this morning i think the most of the warmest wether is past now at least i hope it has Billy came back last Sunday morning to think he had been home i am glad he had the chance to go it seemed nearly as good to me as if i had been my self his discharge has been sent in again i am not agoing to say any more about it untill he gets it i am tired writeing about it We will be home in two weeks from Teusday or Wednesday at any rate and no thanks to them there was another / man died in Hospital this week on Billys bed to that makes two that has died on his bed since i came here the Hospital is full now both Wards have to be used these two months are very sickly here give my love to Charly i hear he is at home i wish Billy and me were with you i supose you are enjoying your self all right go it while you are young When you get married like me you will have to settle down
Give my love to Mother and all the rest dont forget the Babies kiss Sammy for me tell him Uncle Bill has back to Washington and is agoing to bring him candy i dont think of anything more good bye
