Elizabeth Stout (maiden name: Harding) was born around 1833 in Indiana to Samuel and Jane Harding. Her father was a farmer who owned $15,000 of real estate and $1,000 of personal property by 1860. She grew up and attended school in Wayne, Indiana. She married Richard C. Stout on December 20, 1859, and they had at least two children: Claudius, born around 1866; and Nettie, born around 1871. They lived in Indianapolis, Indiana, and her husband worked as a grocer. By 1860, they owned $700 of real estate and $900 of personal property. A decade later, they owned $4,000 of real estate and $800 of personal property. By 1880, she was suffering from a “cold on [the] lungs.” She died in Indianapolis on February 14, 1883.
