Nancy Ann Harding (maiden name: Johnson) was born on February 5, 1800, in Indiana to Jeremiah Johnson. She married Israel Harding on December 30, 1824, and they had at least five children: Lazarus, born around 1836; Gabriella, born around 1835; Shelton, born around 1839; Sarah, born around 1840; and Israel, born around 1843. Her husband was a Whig Party politician who served in the state legislature, and he died in July 1842.
She lived in Wayne, Indiana, and continued to raise her children. By 1850, she owned $5,000 of real estate. A decade later, she owned $20,000 of real estate and $1,500 of personal property. By 1870, she was living in her son Israel’s household in Wayne. A decade later, they were living in Mount Jackson, Indiana. She died on May 20, 1881.
