[diagonal stamp: Middletown, N.Y.]
May 26th 1895
Dear Mother.
For days and weeks I've tried to get time to write but evry day is alike & sunday I cant see do to one thing. we that are here are well. Isabel and her Papa are away. Isabel is to a Mr Howells for $100 per week Willie went to Greenwood lake the 1st of May he has been back twice / after things. I expect him again next week. I dont know just when I will go sometime in June I suppose. I never had such a dread of anything. to break up our home sell & give away our pets scatter the children and go away it dont look right. Middletown ought to give us a living but there seems to be nothing for us. I've worked my eyes most out of my head to get us all ready, for all summer wether I want to go or not I've got to go. I wanted so much to visit Sull. Co. / I am afraid I will never see again. There are so many things I want to talk with you about. I have the carpet rags ready but I cant get them up town I will try and have Willie take them when he comes home. We do not like our new house so awfull well or the place where it is. there is another one being built we are thinking of taking that pmt as soon as I get to work I will send you interest. I will pay that if I never have any thing. I hope you & I will live long enough for me to pay you / I have a hard time to see to sew or read or write I dont know wether I need glasses or wether I am going blind no one knows what I suffer with the top of my my tempels & eyes. I think glasses may help them. Mable will come to Sull. Co. before a great while I suppose she wants to visit you & Nina before the boarders come. I hope she will get along good to Aunt Eley as I wrote Mrs Bonnell I would have to bring Ernest with me I dont know what she will think of that. I dont know what I've done to Winfield and Mary I wrote to them a year ago but they never answer it.
[front top margin upside down]
write soon and tell me how all the old folks are I always liked them all. All the Sull. Co. folks seem new to me. Good bye love to you
Martha
[inner side and top margin]
I may put some of Mabels clothes in bag
I will write to either you or Nina before Mabel comes
