Dear Mother
                        I take my pen in hand to write a few lines to you i am well at present & hoping that these few lines will find you & the rest the same it seames a long to me sinc i hav seen you & Father & the boys & Mary / i should like to see you all verry mutch i got a letter from Danial some time ago i rote to him but i hav had no answer from it i was glad to hear from him i should like to know if he got my letter if he did i should like to hav him answer it i supose you got tired of visiting i think you must hav bin glad when you got home i guess that father & Danial was glad to see you it seames a long time sinc i hav seen you & mary mary i suppose has grown a gooddeal sinc i saw her it i midling cold wether here at present but not so cold as it is whare you are i like it well here i think we shal stay / here till spring but i cant tell we may leave in a weak if we do stay i think i shal come home i should hav bin home before this time if i had not bin sick & exposed to the small pox i hav bin exposed 5 times sinc i came here thare was 2 men came down with it in the hospitle while i had the measels i expected to hav it but i hav not yet now i dont think i shal i dare not come for feer i mite thare is not but 5 that has got it now & i hope that it will not spred eney more evry man about has the measels that did not hav them before he came here but noone has died with them yet they hav had good luck 
 
i dont want you to worry about me for it wont help me nor you i am as well over here as i should be at home although i know it would be more pleasing if we wer whare we could see each other but i am contented whare i am we live good & it seames like home to me i hav not bin home sick sinc i left home i hird that miss Stephens was married is it so i should like to know the boys from preston are well but buchanans boy he is very sick thare has 2 died in this company they had the consumtin when they come here ones name was washborn & the was Taylor his father is here & 2 brothers washborn must be some relation to mister hines folk i guess /
 
I want you to rite & let me now what is going on & what the boyes are doing & if father is adiging yet tell the boyes [?] to rite to me you nede not look for me to come home till you see me if i can get my likeness took i will send you one i should like to see all the folks very well i think i shal some time if nothing happens Give my best respects to Lucy & Jackson & all the the rest of the folks how dos miss how get along & what dos she / find to trouble hir old noddle about it must be the same old thing for she haint got sens enough for eney thing els imus bring this to a close for it is growing dark you must rite as soon as you get this for i want to hear from you Give my respects to all enquireing friends & keep a share for your self this is from your son Abner B Palmer
