Dear Mother
                        I take my pen in hand to drop a few lines more to you to let you know whare I am I am here in verginia on what is cawled aqui creek I rote a few lines to you the 30th of April but before I had time to mail them we had orders to get redey to get on bord of a boat in fifteen minutes that had just landed for us & I hav had no chance to rite till now we are not far from whare we was it is just a cross the river we are in shanties that the rebels hav built they hav left here sinc we came / to Liver pool point I hav not time to rite the partickulars about this plase I like it better here than I did in mayerland we are within two dayes march of ritchmond we are under marching orders now we are redey to go at an hours warning but we cant tell whare we are agoing whare I shal be when you hear from me again I can not tell but I hope I shal be some whare in the land of the living the way that I feel I dont care mutch whare I am if eney one feals as I do o how hard it is I cant control my feeling nor be contented I hav bin contented but I am no more but I hav to stand it but it is hard I want this war to close even if I loos my life in it 
 
it is just seven monts to day since I left home & god forbid that I shal hav to stay seven more tell harriet that she must do the best she can to bare her trouble with paitianc I know that it must be a hard blow for her as well as myself god onely knows how bad it makes me feel but I must submit to it but it is hard for me I want you to rite as soon as you get this Direct your letters as I hav told you to & then they will be shure to come to me whareever I am tell harriet that I shal rite to her soon but I cant now this leaves me well at presant & I hope that it will find you & the rest the same Give my love to all & keep a share for your self you wanted some of my hair but / but it is so short I cant it is not a half an inch long my hair come out so after I had the measels that I like to lost it all so I had it cut close to my hed I am sorry that it is so but I cant help it now rite soon as you get this tell harriet to rite tell her that I want to know if she got my letters tell her that I would come home if I could but I cant thare is no use of my trying I must close good by I will rite again soon this is from your son Abner B Palmer
