Dear Mother
                        I received your letter yesterday & it is with a sad heart & a trembling hand that I rite a few lines to you this morning I well know that when I herd from home that I should hear bad nues but what it was I little knew I cant rite mutch for my fealings will not let me whare I shal be when you hear from me again I can not tell the rest of our rigment is in verginnia not far from fredricksburgh some twenty miles from here when we shal leave this plase I cant tell it wont be long thare is not eney war nues for me to rite I am midling well at presant to what I hav bin 
 
I think that chamberlain must think that I want to hear from him I got a letter from him yesterday that makes two that I hav had from him but I shal not answer them I wish that harriet was away from thare & I wish that she had never went thare I should like to know what he wants to keep the stove & the cow I guess that he can hav his pay for keeping the cow when I get my pay to day we are musturd for pay again thare is 52 Dollars a comeing to me now & when I get it I can send it all home the captain has bin to washington to see what was the reson that we want paid of I think it wont be long now be fore we get our pay 
 
tell hariet thare is no use of my wanting to come home for I cant tell her that I hav rote two letters to her sinc I came here tell her to rite to me if she is able to tell her that she must bare her troubles as easy as she can
 
Direct your letter to washington not liverpool point they dont I will rite a gain soon but I cant no more this rite a soon as you get this for I shal want to here from you all tell harriet that she must take good care of her self & famly I wish that I was whare I could come & see them but I am not I cant rite no more this leaves me well & I hope that it will find you all the same
