Walter R. Palmer to Jane Palmer, 25 October 1885
Pittsburgh, Pa., Oct 25 1885

Dear Aunt Jane—
It seems like an age since I have written you, so I now grasp an opportunity to do so. I might offer as an excuse why I do not write oftener, this. I have to travel so much at night that I do not write any body except my wife & employer very often. now today I am trying to redeem myself among my friends. I have written 17 letters & 42 Postal cards. I keep a list of those to whom I owe a letter & now I have only 2 or 3 more names on it & those I am a going to wipe out & then start square again. See?

This is one of the dirtiest cities I was ever in. the sun scarcely ever shines here. Sundays are a long lonesome day to me when away from home. I have got one of the best wives that ever wore shoe leather & the finest baby you ever saw at a year old. our babys name is Mabel White Palmer. I went clear out side of our families to get a name for her & if she makes as good a girl as the one she is named after I shall be happy & glad. Aunt Jane I often come to Scranton & would dearly love to see you, but never can spare the time. I will try & come sometime soon. Give my love to your children. I cant call them by name as I dont know their names. With much love to you & kind regards, I remain
