Palmyra Aug 2 1862
Dear Brother as wee are now in camp I will try and say a few words to you to let you know that I am well and that wee arived safe at our camp and that wee are haveing a verry fine time the boys all feel well and like it verry mutch wee stayed at a barn the first night and the next day wee went to the camp and had our dinner wee had cold watter and corned beef and crackers bread and new potatoes / and peper and salt and at night wee had about the same with the exception of tea it was good wee have no milk but wee can get along without it wee have good buncks wee have to sleep on straw but we have good blanckes and lots of fun I wish that you was here to fiddle for us wee have a good place to dance and and have lots of fun but I guess that you had not better come for I think that you could not stand it as wee have to be out late nights and youre cough would trouble / but I would like to have you come down and see us and wee will try and make it pleasant for you now I must close for it is time to drill if you write direct to care captain smith company A N.Y.S.V.
