As I have a fiew moments to spare I will write you a fiew words to let you know that I am well and hope that they will find you as they leave me I have been so buisy that I have not had a chance to write to any of my friends but I thought that it was my duty to write to you for I told you that I would write to you and so I will comence and see if I can say any thing that will do you any good

we have one of the finest camps that there is in this country we are at the old residence of Stonewall Jackson / he had a verry fine place here but it is now a compleat ruin we do not find a great many white people here they are most all colord people but they are verry kind to our soldiers they wash for them and cook for them and it makes it very pleasant for us

this is the place where John Brown was taken and the boys all sing John Browns Boddy lies molding in the grave

we had rather hard time getting here for our quarter master did not provide for the men and when we got to hudson the officers went / ashore and got som bread and som meat and cheas for the boys and they felt better after they got it they comenced to sing and dance on the boat and had a good time. I went ashore and got me a fine sword or at least the boys bought it for me it was a fine cite down the river I saw more than I ever saw before I think that we will stay here for some time I hope so for we have got our camp fixt up so nice I saw Fred Clemons and Tip Moar and some other boys that I knew but did not get a chance to / talk to them long I did not see George Clark but he went by our camp but did not stop he was with his company I must close with saying remember youre friend
