No. 47 Essex st. Charlestown,
Feb. 16th 1863.
Col. Francis J. Parker,
Kind sir,
I have received by the hand of His Honor, Mayor Stone, the generous sum of $50; which he informs me is the gift of my husband's late Colonel, Francis J. Parker.
I know not how to sufficiently thank you for your generosity; but I hope the blessings of our Heavenly Father will ever attend you for your kindness to the wife and children of a poor soldier.
The many high econiums / passed upon you by my husband, in his letters to me, are all deserved. You are not more respected by Capt. H. D. Norton, than by his wife.
Your gift was most timely, as well as acceptable; for my husband, although he has been in service (this time) nearly seven months, has not received a cent from Government yet.
Again, I thank you, for your generous gift. I hope the time may come soon when my husband will be able to repay you for your kindness to his wife and babes.
I am, respectfully,
Your friend,
Nellie A. Norton.
