Dear Mother
I will pen you a few lines as I have leasure time. it was but a few days ago that I wrote to Marlon but I suppose you are anxious about me so I write every time I get a chance to mail. last night we marched all night & are now about 7 miles from where we were yesterday reenforcements are continually coming up from Bell Plain & Washington a Reg't came / in yesterday with 2200 men in it it was the 15th N.Y.H.A. they went right into the fight & lost heavily
I had a first rate swim in the Poe river this after noon, the first chance I have had since I left camp.
The mail came to day & with surprise I found that no news had come from home. I have no doubt but what you have written but it has no doubt been miscarried as this is the first mail we have received since we left camp at Brandy
I received three letters one from Sarah Greene & two from other acquaint / tances
I visited the 11th N.H.V. & saw J. D. Folsom Sam Randall Jo Small Geo Donall Leonard Tilton & others they appeared to be glad to see me & I assure you I was glad enough to see them. John Crain is wounded in the leg
Give Respects to all inquiring friends & allow me to Close
Your Obt Svt
