Jackson A. Moore
Jackson A. Moore was probably born in South Carolina, and his parents were probably slave owners. He enlisted in the Confederate army at Ridgeville, South Carolina, on June 24, 1861, and he mustered in as a private in Company A of the 5th South Carolina Infantry.  He was “slightly wounded’ on May 1, 1862, and sent home on furlough to recover. He rejoined the regiment by the fall of 1862. The regiment took part in the Battle of Fredericksburg, the Battle of Chattanooga, the Battle of Knoxville, and the Battle of the Wilderness. He was severely wounded in the leg on May 6, 1864, in the Battle of the Wilderness, and he received a furlough until August 1864. He overstayed his leave, failing to return to the regiment until November 1864. He surrendered on April 9, 1865, at Appomattox Court House as part of General Robert E. Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia. He died sometime after April 1865.
