Jackson A. Moore to Sister, 4 April 1862
Camp Taylor Via
4th April 1862
Der Sister,
I suppose before this that you have received a letter that I wrote to you the day that I got to Richmond. You ought to have received it before Brison left but as Margaret did not say any thing of it I suppose it was delayed on the road. Camp life went rather hard with me for the first few days after I got / got back here but I am getting a little better satisfied. I would not mind the cooking part so much if I did not have to toat water over half a mile and cut and toat my fire wood. Tell father I that he will send a cook as soon as possible. If he sends one of the boys I think it would be better to send Eliss, but he can do as he thinks proper. I can get $20, per month for him & send the money as fast as I / collect it. I am in a new mess at presant, but expect to make some changes in it as soon as I get a cook. I will then let you know who they are. Our men here that did revolenteer are the most discontented set of men that I saw. Several of them have got the Hippo. They all regret now that they did not revolenteer at first when furloughs were offered them. Several of them have revolenteered since we got back but they are a little / to late as the Secketary of War does not think proper to grant any more. Liet Evins has not arrived here as yet.
If you will send your watch here I think that I can sell it for at least $60. Tell Mother not to send me any thing to eat by the cook as he will have enough to do to take care of himself. He must bring along enough to get him here, that is on the road here.
Yours affectionately
J. A. Moore
