letter the 10th                          
this is the 10th letter that I have sent you number yours then I can tel when they are started
 
dear annie I am going to send you a ring possibly by [?] Sullivan as he is going home to morrow we are now on a march I dont know where we are bound al that I know is this that we are moving up the river towards manassas & we expected to have to crossed last knight but we did not travel more than 7 miles before halted for what I cant tel but we expect to start to every moment I have not heard from you since the 16th of may do try to let me me hear from you if posible for I never wanted to hear from you as bad in my life I have no news to to tel you except that General Johnson played Grant at Vicksburg that is the report it is said to true we heard that the yankies had crossed at Fredricksburg and our men are fighting them they are doing it right I know any how I dont think the yankie army has ever been born to go to Richmond that away Annie you must not think hard of so short a letter for I cant do any better at this time unless I knew that would spend the knight here if we move Sullivan start home but if we remain here he wil stay until morning so I am compeled to close on that account dick is wel al of our mess is wel and hearty annie if [?] is down home tel ma that we would like to have him for a cook as we have none since george went to the yankies now dont forget it and let me know though I dont expect there down there any more I am afraid you have to do every thing your selves though I hope not give my love to al as before writ to me soon and tel me al the news I expect it is a hard mater to get a letter the river since the yankies have been down there I send you al the love hugs and kisses that you want kiss the children for me I would so glad to see you and family Annie I almost know ant winnie has gone to the yankies annie this war is like a ring it has no end that we can see I hope it is near Annie good by god bless you and family your very afectionate husband          Henry Baryl
 
Annie I have a firstrate way to send this letter to you Joseph Gulick is here and says he go down home to morrow and wil take this letter to heathsville you can get it from there he is going to [?] today now try to send a letter by him if you can he says he wil come and see you / if he can if he dos come you must send a letter by him I am going to send you some stamps I would be glad if you had as good a chance to send one to me as I think this is to send this to you good by god bless you your affectionate husband Henry Basye
 
I sent a letter to you by Mr Gulick the other day you have not gotten it yet I know I reckon you want to know what gulick this is I wil tel you he is a brother to A Barnes wife he married in Georgia before the war and got some property and that is the reason that he is in the southern army though he is a strong southern man sure he dont claim to be a refugee like those cowardly Marylanders that come over for protection / I hope the yankies may get their reward this man I think has a brother in the yankie army he says he would like meet with him if he does not surrender quick he would kil him foarth with. Annie we have plenty to eat meat bread peas rice beef and some times we get a half pound of meat it is more than we can eat it is a plenty Annie I dont know how you wil get this letter after it gets to lancaster or Northumberland I understand that yankies are down there now if they are I dont know when I ever shal hear from home good by
