Dear Parents
Again I am going to try to scribble a few lines to you and the only news I have to write is that we are all well and in good spirits Voorhis & James are both off on detail at work and Daniel and myself are left alone in our little six by nine shanty and nothing to do but sit by the fire and smoke though the weather is so warm that we dont need much fire through the middle of the day We received a letter from you last night dated the 21st just five days coming / through but some of your letters come in four days. Voorhis received a letter from Kate last night and she tells him that she and William Frisbie were married at Spencer on the 18th but they are going to keep it a secret ha ha. Kate says her folks knew nothing of it untill after they were married and then she told them but she dont want the folks about there to find it out yet a while and says the boys must direct her letters the same as usual. Big thing on ice. You wrote that Pa had a lame shoulder and I think the best way to cure it would be to quit work and go a visiting and he might as well come down this way as / to go any where and we will treat him to all the luxuries of a soldier's life that is give him nine or ten hard tack a day and three pints of coffee and good soft wood poles to sleep on nights with the softest side up. I will warrant him a speedy cure if he comes for we are all growing fat hale and hearty under the treatment and as for the donation parties that we are missing why I would'nt escort a young lady to one if I could just as well as not oh no Why we take more comfort here in one week than we would in a whole year up north and we are not scared out of our wits when Old Abe makes a call for three or five thousand more troops to help put down the Rebellion not we / and as for being tied up in a store like that Big Boy of yours I would'nt do it for love nor money and I think I shall be very sorry if Uncle Sam orders me to leave the service next fall and when they come to hand me my discharge papers I will tell them I aint the man Whew is that a lie git out

My love to all and a kiss to Grand Ma

I remain your affectionate Son
