Charles W. Personius to William Personius and Julia A. Personius, 5 June 1865
Camp Near Fort Berry Va
June 5th 1865

Dear Parents
I will write you once more while in old Va and probably for the last time for I think we will leave here for Elmira some time this week. Daniel will not be able to go out under this call. None go only those whose term of service expires before the first of October

Voorhis Besemer has returned from the hospital and feels pretty well but he feels quite weak yet the rest of the boys are all enjoying good health It is very warm / and we just about suffocate for the want of a cool breath of air Yesterday was a very warm day and this morning it seems to me to be hotter than ever and it is now only seven O'clock gracious me what will it be by twelve and this is only the fore part of June but perhaps I feel the heat more than if I had something to busy myself about and this peace soldiering is the worst that I have ever seen and if I had to stay six months longer I should pray for another war to break out and it is the same with all the boys for they are all very anxious to leave the service and the time seems awful long

It is nearly time for the mail to leave so I will give you a short letter this time

Adieu
C. W. Personeus
