Theophilus G. Anderson
Theophilus G. Anderson was born around 1834 in Tennessee. By 1850, he was living in his sister Jane’s household in San Augustine, Texas. The family moved to Austin, Texas, in the 1850s. By 1860, he was working as a lawyer, and he owned $650 of real estate. He married Bell Sneed on September 5, 1860, and they had at least two children: William, born around 1862; and Theophilus, born around 1864.
 
He served in the Confederate cavalry during the Civil War, and he eventually rose to the rank of captain. He remained in the army until the end of the war, and he received a parole from Union forces on June 16, 1865.
 
He settled in San Antonio, Texas, after the war and resumed his work as a lawyer. By 1870, he owned $400 of personal property. He eventually joined the Republican Party, and he was elected to the state legislature in 1880. He served for one term. He died in June 1890.
