I went near the Island the evening of the cannonading and could not make any discoveries as to the cause of the firing.

I went to the mouth of the river last night and was informed by a lady that it was target shooting

Gen Slaughter has ordered me to have 600 pds of corn per day—that will feed my horses 4 pds per day—and with what grass there is here they may live but will not be able for any service

I will cheerfully remain here until my horses are all unable for service and then report the fact to your Hd Qrs

Is Jones a Com Officer? could not Miller act ActQM & Commissary for me temporarily. Jones is with Cater and if he has to act for me the distance he is from me we will be without rations half the time I have my Com Officer that will accept the position. Impress upon the Col the necessity of appointing Miller temporarily. Has Jones removal been approved by him
