Camp of 50th N.Y. Engineers
Washington D.C March 29th/64

Dear Parents
Once more I am permitted to direct a few lines to you to inform you of our present health and doings The Capt's throat is not much better than when I last wrote you. James Besemer has got the mumps. The rest of us are all enjoying good health and I hope this may find you the same
The rumor in camp is that we move for the front either to day or tomorrow and I think there is considerable foundation for the rumor so you need not feel anxious about us if you do not hear from your / Boys under five or six days It is rather early in the season for us to move yet for we will probably see some cold weather and I hate to move quite so soon but if the order comes for us to pack up and leave why of course I am ready and willing to go without a murmur I have made the march once and the saying is "what man has done man may do again" but I am afraid it would be rather tough for Daniel if we had to march the whole distance as he is not used to marching. I saw Isaac's Henry yesterday He looks very tough and healthy and had grown so I hardly knew him. He says George Reed has gone on a trip to Florida in charge of a squad of recruits to be sent there / He will have a fine opportunity for seeing the country on his way down there and back though I suppose he will go by water a greater part the way. I have not time to write more for the present for I will have to go out to drill on ponton in a few minutes so farewell for this time
