Camp near Citty
Point, Va. July the 11th
or rather Peatersburg
Dear Parents I thought you would like to hear from me once more I am as well as usual and hope these few lines will find you the same we are encamped in a nice place in the woods about two miles from Peatersburg I have ben so I can see the houses I was in a fort out thare and the Johnnies through five solid shot at it but did not hit it they did wissel like everry thing they went over the fort our folks opened three guns on them and soon hushed them up in that fort the / guns was thirty two pound parrit guns thare is constantly kept up pickit firing and som cannonadeing I have ben out this morning and got all the ripe black berries that I want to eat the morning I received letter from you stating that you was all wel I was verry glad to hear such good news it was rote the day before the forth I suppose that you did have a nice time and Julia had to shoot them fire crackers so she and the little girls has had lots of fun to may be that you would like to know how that day was spent hear wall it was spent just like everry other day
