Dear Mother
Yours of 21st & 2d Inst have been received also two packages of papers; the half has not arrived I think that two of your letters have not been received
In regard to myself I will endeavor to give all particulars. The wound itself is doing well healing slowly from the inside; at one time there appeared to be some danger of its healing too fast on the outside but that is past now It is not so much the wound as my back that troubles me; the ball after striking the bone glanced round in / side of the leg thence to the spine, or rather near the spine where it now remains; the consequence is that my back aches all the time, there has not been a minute since I was wounded to the present time but what I have been in pain; not a violent pain but a slow heavy pain; at times without any apparent reason the pain becomes intense; last night I had one of these times it commenced about dusk and lasted till five this morning when it gradually died away and I am quite comfortable now; at times last night the pain was nearly unbearable What I am afraid of is, that after the wound is healed that my back will / prevent me from moving: at the present time I cannot move scarcely any. Yesterday I sat up a few moments for the first time but it pained me very much this morning I endeavored to walk but the first step sent that pain running through my back
In reference to your coming on, you know how pleasant to me it would be to have you here but as to the good you could do in the way necessary it would pay hardly pay; I require no nursing; it being necessary only to keep the wound clean which I can do as well as anyone My appetite is good can eat most everything. We have meat, potatoes bread, butter tea and coffee / should you think best to make me a visit I should be very happy Do not be over anxious trust I shall get along well. Hope Father will continue to gain.
Your Affc Son
Chas F Lee
P.S. Mr Harrington has just been to see me
