Dear sister
I will try after a long time to write you a few lines to let you know that we are still liveing although this world seems nothing but a wilderness it seem there is know pleasure in it for your unworthy sister since we have lost our Jasper O sister we did not know what a good boy he was and how mutch we loved him untill we lost him I was talking to him the morning he left and told him that I hoped the Lord would spare him to come back to us again and he said mother I have / no idea but that shall get back again poor boy littel did he think his lifeless corpse would be brought to his wife and little boy and father and mother and brother it seems that we miss him all the time every where we go there seems a vacancy that this world can never fill but enough for my pen cannot write what my heart feels them that has went through the same trial only knows sister I hope you will not have to go through what I have but when they are gone to the army we know they are exposed to death in so many ways that we might / be looking for nothing else but to hear off sickness or death I hope you have heard from John Louis before this time and heard good news we had not heard from him for a long time untill the other day the Lieutenant of the company came home and he said John was sick in the hospitle at helena arcansas but I hope you have heard from him since and that he is better
 
tell Josaphene I was very glad to get a letter from her and she is learning very fast and tel her to write soon and I will try to answer it if my mind gets compose enough to write any thing / that will interest her tell her that I think just as mutch off the letter as if had answerd it she said in her letter that you was coming up I shall look for you and I want you to write when you will be at [?] and we will meet you thare tell nancy to come with you I tell her I can feel for her in her troubles tell Jackson that anne is well and well satisfied and a perfect chatterbox give my love all
 
James has two boys the oldest is quite sick with the [?] complaint
