on board the Steam Ship Benderford 4 oclock P.M.
 
Charles i write these few lines to let you know that you may expect to hear something from the army of the south before long. we are on bord of the benderford we are now just taking on board general Hunter his staff and horses and of course i suppose things is reddy to make a strike on Charleston i hope it will fall there will be strong effort made and i think we will succede. look out for the news
 
there was a company of negroes brought here to day 10 Rebel prisoners.
 
our Co is the Generals body guards we are with him
 
Se about that eighty two dollars i sent to Aaron 
 
Write to me soon.
 
I will write again when I sea more to write about every thing is in a hurry now my duty is quarter master
