My Brother Charles
I write to let you know how I am getting along now I have improved so much that I can walk tolerable well without the use of a cane on a good road I can use my hand some butt my fingers are not very supple yett. Butt there is a fair prospect in time of my getting as well as ever. my health is good. I weighed 196 yesterday with a linnen coat on and feel able to attend to buisness again, altho not able to do very hard work / thanck god I have brains enough to gett along without very hard labour I have not followd my trade much for fifteen years and dont thinck I will soon again you want to know my circumstances. I have not the time at present to give you a full statement of particulars. when I was taken in 1855 I had a little property and some money, the latter of which is not quite gone yett, butt so near it becomes necessary for me to gett to doing some kind of buisness soon, which I am going / to do immediately. I shall leave here next thursday, the 30th inst. direct your next letter to Havana Mason Co Ill. to which place any communication will find me after the first September.

I wish to inform you that Douglass will carry Ill by over 10,000 and I believe he will carry N.Y. and also be the next President
