Warren C. Harris
Warren C. Harris was born on January 24, 1836, in North Carolina to Robert and Mary Harris. His father was a farmer who owned $250 of real estate in 1850. He grew up and attended school in Mecklenburg, North Carolina.
 
Harris enlisted in the Confederate army on July 25, 1861, and he mustered in as a private in Company A of the 11th North Carolina Infantry later that day. According to his service records, he was 5 feet, 10 inches tall, with dark hair and blue eyes. He was discharged on September 27, 1861.
 
He reenlisted in the Confederate army on May 3, 1862, and returned to the 11th North Carolina Infantry. The regiment took part in the Battle of Gettysburg, the Overland Campaign, and the Siege of Petersburg. Union forces captured him on April 2, 1865, and he spent the next two months imprisoned in Fort Delaware. He swore an oath of allegiance on June 19, 1865, and he was released later that day.
 
He returned to Mecklenburg County after the war, and he married a woman named Anna around 1867. They had at least ten children: Robert, born around 1867; Thomas, born around 1869; Marquis Lafayette, born around 1872; Nathaniel, born around 1874; William, born around 1876; Malon, born around 1878; Henry, born around 1880; Irene, born around 1883; Anna, born around 1885; and Frederick, born around 1888. He remained in Mecklenburg County for the rest of his life, and he died near Newell, North Carolina, on May 19, 1907.
