Harrison Ritchie
Harrison Ritchie was born on February 23, 1825, in Boston, Massachusetts, to Andrew Ritchie. He graduated from Harvard University in 1845, and he was admitted to the Massachusetts bar in 1848. He earned a living as a lawyer, During the Civil War, he served as a lieutenant colonel on Governor John A. Andrew’s staff. He was promoted to colonel in 1864. According to an early biographer, he “went to London [during the war] to purchase arms to equip the Massachusetts troops.” He moved to Paris, France, after the war, and he died there on November 24, 1894.
