Boston June 3d—1862
Lt Coln F. J. Parker
Dear Sir
Arriving at home late Saturday evening, I did not see the Gov or Adjt Genl until Monday. They were to much engaged in making arrangements to attend the H & H Artillery parade, to give the matter of enlistment any attention until today, when they informed me that all arrangements were made for recruiting and that as soon as companys were ready they would forward them to you.
There are at the Fort about 20 men of the Regt, and the blankets Col Avery wrote about are at the State House. As the Gov. does not want me for recruiting service here, please send me an order to return to the Regt and take the men and blankets with me.
There was at the Depot 526 muskets and 4 sent from New York. I cannot as yet ascertain how many are at the Fort. We had 564 passengers, of them there were 24 Officers & 1 Servant and 8 Musicians, that being correct we are one musket short.
There is in store at Lincolns Wharf a waggon load of packages, belonging to the Regt the marks are rubbed out, if you desire me to overhall them and if possible to ascertain to whom they belong, please order me to do so. Sergt Hammond has just been in and says he has remarked the most of the baggage and sent it away. I understand him to say there is 20 well men and 18 sick men at the Fort. They are all anxious to get away even if they go to Camp Cameron until you are ready for them.
As near as I can ascertain there are not 100 men enlisted for the Regt
Yours &c
Jonathan Peirce
