Solomon F. Wood to Brother and Sister, 30 August 1862
Camp Centralia
August 30th 1862

My dear brother & sister
I have just received your kind letter dated the 27th inst. I will write as often as you request if I possibly can, although sometimes, it is difficult to get time to write or do anything else. Mr Pectol was not considered a fit man for Captain—By a majority of our Company—A re election was ordered by the Colonel and Captain Hodge was elected. All the Company voted for him except eighteen. All of the boys are in good health. /

We have enough to eat and it is fully as good as I expected—

You ask me what I want worst. I want the war ended, worse than any thing else—I have no cause to complain. We are fully as well treated as I anticipated. And as regards getting homesick, I do not expect to allow it to trouble me. A soldier must expect a certain amount of hardship and I am prepared to take my share—without grumbling. Hoping to hear from you soon again

I remain
Your Affectionate brother
Solomon F Wood
