Tantalon Station Tennessee
Sunday Oct the 11th 1863
           
Dear Sister
           As I have nothing of importance on hand to day I shall improve the time in writing you a short epistle, In answer to your kind letter of the 3rd which I recieved this morning. Your letter found us all well and doing as well as you could expect. We are still stationed at Tantalon guarding Railroad Bridges. All is quiet about hear now I believe but things has bin considerable of an uproar hear lately. Old Whealer as you have heard I supose has got in our rear and plaid old scrach. he has had several fights and cut the R.R. in several places. But they have succeeded in driving him from the rail road and have got it in operation again. There was a train through yesterday for the first time in several days & brought our mail and I got a letter from you this morning. There has bin no fighting in front since thursday the Rebs tried to brake our line last thursday but wer drivn back with considerable loss there has bin no fighting since that we have heard of Well Mollie I hardly know what to write for I have nothing to write of any interest to you

Mollie when you write to me again I want you to let me know where to direct letters to Headington so I can write to him. I would have wrote to him before now but I could not because I did not know where to address him. Tell Jim Wood that I have a preasant to send him the first oportunity it is some thing very nise for I made it my self I will send it to him the first chance that I have. Tell Cornelia & Net that I am a fraid they have quit writing to me for it has bin some time since I heard from them & I have answered all the letters that I have got from them or any one else. But they may not have got them.
           
But I write every weak wheather I get any letters or not and that is the way you must do, and then maby we will get letters once or twice a month any how. Well Mollie I believe that I have wrote all I can think of at preasant so hoping to hear from you in du season I remain your Brother
                                                           
Give my love to my parents and to the rest of the folks at home
                                               
Give my best respects to all inquiring friends and tell them to write to me
