Camp 80th Ills. V.I.
Jany 22d 1864

Dear Sister—
—I recieved your kind and welcom letter dated Jany 22d. I was glad to hear from you once more. Your letter found me enjoying very good health in camp at Whitesides Station Tennessee on the Nashville and Chattanooga R.R. on the south side of the Tennessee river about 12 miles from the later place We are in winter quarters hear tolerbly well fixed for the winter if we can remain hear all / winter and I think it is likely we will remain hear until spring. The army is laying still hear now doing nothing and I dont think there will be a general moove before spring And I dont know whither there will be then or not for I think the Rebs are a bout plaid out I dont think they will want any more and if they do I guess we can (Grant) them a little more next summer. Well Mollie I was sorry to hear that the weather is so cold up their I am a fraid you will all freeze to death.

Well I have nothing to write about that is of any importance We never get any news hear have not seen any papers for a long time that has / any news in them and I have not had but very fiew letters since I have bin in this camp. So you must not expect very mutch of a letter from me this time. Well Mollie the "Capt Comd" has just come in our dog house and he tells us that he has heard that we are going to remain hear next summer. I dont know whither he knows or not but I hope he does. If that is so I shall have you send me some things by mail or have them expressed to me one or the other. Well I believe that is all for the preasant so I remain your brother Give my respects to my parents & Eliga and the rest of the folks at home so for the preasant Good by Solomon F. Wood
