June 8th 1864
Dear Sister—
—I recieved your kind and very welcome to day dated May the 20th Your letter was very interesting to me as it was the first one that I have recieved for some time. I also recieved one from Mother writen by Lou Frasier which was very interesting and one from Louis Moore. They are the first ones that I have had for some time. I shall not have time to answer all of them to day and I dont know when I will have a nother chance to write for the mail onley / goes by spells now and comes the same way Tell Mother I will answer her letter the first chance. Tell Miss Shaffer and Louis More that I will answer their letters as soon as I can. tell uncle Mat the same. Well Mollie we are all well that is hear. There has bin two of the Boys killed and two wounded since we started from Dalton.
Jim Wood of Bethalto was killed and Ned Starky of Bethalto was killed Alf Young was wounded but not seriously Mark Miller of Edwardsville was wounded that is all that has bin hurt in Co "K" Co. "B" has had one man killed they say Billey Jones is dead but I dont / know wheather he is or not he was wounded in the arm and had his arm taken off we heard that he was dead but dont know
I have not had a letter from Jim since I left Blue Springs I dont think he backs his letters right if you will back them as I told you there is nothing to keep them from coming Direct to Solomon F. Wood Co "K" 80th Ills Vols I via Chattanooga Tennessee
