Edward Braden Jr.
Edward Braden Jr. was born on November 18, 1854, in Texas to Edward and Catherine Braden. His father was a landlord who owned $12,000 of real estate by 1870. He grew up and attended school in San Antonio, Texas, and by 1870, he was working as a clerk. He married Martha Hudson on July 26, 1877, and the couple had no children. He worked as a merchant in the plumbing industry. According to an early biographer, he was “widely known in business and religious circles and for a time took a prominent part in political affairs” in San Antonio. He served on the city’s board of aldermen. He died near Brackett, Texas, on September 14, 1914, after a “two weeks’ illness.”
